EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Everyone loves to gain knowledge about where their food comes from and some of you are inspired to start or expand your own home gardens. We offer guided tours for your group, young or old, or in between. We welcome Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, or any other organized group, or just a group of folks with a common interest in our farming techniques.

We will take you on a guided walking tour of the farm and get a first-hand look at how a sustainable farm operates. The 1-hour tour includes an introduction to the farm and sustainable farming basics. We will highlight field crops, our compost system, the greenhouse, and our CSA. You will also get to visit with our animals. Depending on the season, you may get to taste herbs, tomatoes, kale, an apple, or even one of our edible flowers!

Tours are approximately One Hour

Cost -  $ 15.00 per person (including siblings and chaperones)

It is our pleasure and privilege to have your group come to Long Hill Orchard and Farm for a guided tour.

Our mission is to educate future generations about the importance of local agriculture and sustainable growing practices by introducing students to life on an orchard & farm.

School Tours/ Field Trips are offered daily throughout the growing seasons. These tours will be age appropriate and tailored to meat the  needs of the classroom.

We offer two different tours, depending on the season:

The Garden Tour, offered in the spring, consists of a tractor drawn wagon ride out to the fields and gardens, a brief history  and what day to day life is like on our working farm. They will also be given an explanation of our growing practices and what crops are grown here at Long Hill. They will then have an opportunity to experience a hands on activity such as planting, or weeding & watering, or maybe even harvesting some crops. Groups will meet at the picnic area to enjoy a healthy snack.

The Orchard Tour, offered in the fall, consists of a tractor drawn hay ride out to the orchards, a brief history of the farm and what day to day life is like on a working farm. They will learn what varieties of apples are grown at Long Hill and how we sustain them. They will then have an opportunity to pick a bag of apples or a pumpkin depending on the date of your tour. Groups will meet at the picnic area to enjoy a cup of cider and our own apple cider donuts.

At the end of the tours, the students will be allowed to visit our animals and feed them some scraps from our farm.
